My Journey of Helping People Heal for 20 Years!
This month, as I celebrate 20 years of being of service through my business, I am incredibly grateful for the meaningful and fulfilling work I have the privilege of doing. I am so inspired by and learn so much from my clients. As I reflect over the last twenty years, I see that my work and I have changed a lot, but the one thing that hasn’t changed is that it’s all about people: learning, healing, and growing. Sometimes, it’s important to reflect on where we started to see how far we’ve come, and in the process of looking back, we can see our growth and be encouraged about our ability to evolve in the future.
As I reflect over the years, I see my healing journey began in my early twenties when I was introduced to metaphysics, yoga, and holistic living. I found continued healing of my body, mind, and soul through yoga, nutrition, and a holistic lifestyle—and I felt called to help others do the same. This passion led me to pursue a Bachelor’s in Natural Health, become a Registered Yoga Teacher and Tantra Meditation Teacher, with the dream of one day opening my own studio.
In March 2005, at 30 years old, I took the first step and incorporated my company. I traveled and worked as a yoga and meditation teacher, offered intuitive readings and energy work, and pursued training as a massage therapist. Then, in 2006, my dream became reality! Thanks to my community's generous donations of money, time, and labor, I opened a yoga and massage healing center, offering yoga, tantra, meditation, massage, readings, and energy work. Success!
But by 2008, I realized that owning a healing center was not for me. The stress of managing a business had taken its toll, and when my students began noticing and asking if I was okay, I knew it was time to admit defeat and move forward. After all, no one wants their yoga teacher or massage therapist to be stressed! I decided to sell the business to an exceptional yoga teacher, who transformed it into her own successful studio that served the yoga community for years with passion and dedication. Sometimes, what feels like failure is success in disguise.
After selling the studio, I continued my work as a bodyworker, energy healer, intuitive, and teacher. Without the weight of running a business, I felt lighter, more aligned, and truly in flow. I thrived in private practice, teaching classes, workshops, and retreats in other studios—enjoying the freedom without the overhead! In 2010, after completing my journey through the Shamanic Priestess Process, I became an ordained minister through Madonna Ministries. This allowed me to expand my offerings, blending holistic spiritual counseling with my healing work.
Over the next few years, I realized that counseling was where I could be of the greatest service, making the most meaningful impact on people’s lives. As I leaned into this path, I gradually let go of offering other modalities—though the wisdom I gained from them continues to inform my work as a holistic counselor. Committed to deepening my expertise, I have pursued countless continuing education courses in counseling, always striving to expand my skill set and empower others on their personal growth journeys.
In 2013, after feeling a strong “nudge” from Spirit, I began writing a self-help book to guide others to embrace who they are and what they came here to do. In early 2020, Not From Here: A Spiritual Misfit’s Guide to Finding Purpose and Belonging was released to the world, marking my journey as a published author. This book, filled with practical advice and spiritual insights, speaks to those who, like me, have felt like misfits struggling to find their place. It holds a special place in my heart, as I, too, once felt like I didn’t belong—until I healed and found belonging within myself. When we truly belong to ourselves, we align with who we are, discover our purpose, and step fully into our place in this world.
Aligning with our purpose is not always easy. Our purpose can evolve as we do, especially when we move through different phases of life. Along the way, I’ve faced many fears—the fear of failure, of judgment, of disappointment, of being misunderstood, or of being seen. Yet, I’ve had the courage to confront these fears and share my authentic self with the world. It’s been a journey, but through it all, I’ve learned to be unapologetically me. I hope my journey inspires you to embrace your fears and share your authentic self with the world.
Reflecting on the experiences that have brought me here, the best word to describe what I offer in my counseling services is alchemy. By blending my personal healing journey with my educational and professional experiences, I provide something uniquely therapeutic, effective, and distinct from the traditional approach. My work offers a spiritual path grounded in the science of nervous system regulation, and bridging the gaps in the Mind, Body, Heart, & Soul of those I serve.
Looking back on the non-traditional, winding road I’ve traveled over the past twenty years, holistic healing has been at the core of everything I do. The ways in which that healing happens and the modalities I use have evolved, just as I have. But the one constant since 2005 is that I help people heal. I know healing—having immersed myself in my own healing journey for thirty years, and sharing that wisdom with others for the past twenty. My wholeness, authenticity, and grounded sense of being that I’ve been able to achieve through a lot of inner work, helps others relax, giving them the confidence to believe that their healing is also possible. I am living proof that we can transform ourselves and our lives. We can heal, evolve, and see results when we allow ourselves to change, fail, succeed, grow, and persevere through challenges. We are resilient, and every bit of energy we invest in healing and self-acceptance is worth it. When we love ourselves, accept ourselves, and find peace within, we create harmony not only in ourselves but in our relationships with others and the world as well.
So, what’s next for me? How will I grow, and what will I offer in the next twenty years? I have some ideas. I’m starting with a free group meditation series, which, in some ways, is returning me to my meditation roots, something that has profoundly impacted my life, and sharing that practice with others. I also plan to follow the call I’ve heard from Spirit for several years about starting a podcast. I can’t think of two better ways to celebrate my 20th anniversary of this healing work, and my relationship with you, who have been an integral part of my journey. Thank you!
As I express my gratitude for all who have supported me, I dedicate this blog post to those past and present who have helped me become who I am and enabled me to do my work. May you all be blessed tenfold. Some of you have transitioned, and some of you are still here. One thing I know for certain is that I wouldn’t be here without you. I love you.
